What Are Dental Implants?
A dental implant is simply an artificial dental root. Dental Implants can provide a strong foundation for permanent teeth or base for a full or partial removable dentures.
Overview
When a patient has missing teeth: crowns, conventional bridges or dentures do not have to be the only solution. Dental implants are a new and booming procedure that is used to replace dentures and bridges that simultaneously offers a smile that looks and feels natural.
Implants offer stability because they fuse to the bone by a process called Osseointegration. Integration of the implants into the jaw bone helps the replacement teeth feel more natural and stable.
Candidates for dental implants need to have healthy gums and adequate bone to support the implant. A thorough evaluation by Dr. Harpaz will help determine whether you are a good candidate for dental implants.

What Are the Advantages of Dental Implants?
There are many advantages to dental implants, including:
Improved oral health:
Dental implants do not require shaving natural teeth to a stud like in the case of dental bridges. Because adjacent teeth are not altered to support the implant, more of your own natural teeth are left untouched, improving your long-term teeth health. Individual implants also allow easier access between teeth, allowing for the dental floss to be used, improving oral hygiene and general gums health.
Improved appearance:
Dental implants look and feel like your own teeth, and because they are designed to fuse with bone, they become permanent.
Improved comfort:
Because they become part of you, implants eliminate the discomfort of removable dentures.
Easier eating:
A full set of dentures can make chewing difficult. In actuality the amount of force that one can exert with full dentures is usually 1/6 the force of natural teeth. Dental implants function like your own teeth, allowing you to restore the chewing forces and eat your favorite foods with confidence and painless.
Improved speech:
With poor-fitting dentures, the teeth can slip within the mouth causing you to mumble or slur your words. Dental implants allow you to speak without the worry that your teeth might slip.
Improved self-esteem:
Dental implants can give you back your smile, and help you feel better about yourself.
Durability:
Implants are very durable and will last many years. With good care, many implants last a lifetime.
Convenience:
Removable dentures are just that; removable. Dental implants eliminate the embarrassing inconvenience of removing your dentures, as well as the need for messy adhesives to keep your dentures in place.
How Successful Are Dental Implants?
In general, dental implants have a success rate of 92% to 98%. With proper care, implants can last a lifetime. In some rare cases failure may occur. In case of failure the procedure can be repeated after allowing enough time for healing to occur.
Can Anyone Get Dental Implants?
In most cases any healthy individual can have dental implants. Patients should have healthy gums and enough bone to support the implant. They also must be committed to good oral hygiene and regular dental visits. Heavy smokers, people suffering from uncontrolled chronic disorders - such as diabetes or heart disease - or patients who have had radiation therapy to the head/neck area need to be evaluated on an individual basis. Usually our patients can go back to their daily routine the very next day.

Dental implants require the same care as real teeth; including brushing, flossing and regular dental check-ups. We recommend six month cleaning appointments for our patients based on their gum health.
