Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is a dental implant?
A. A dental implant is simply an artificial root which acts as a foundation for dental crowns, bridges, or to support dentures.
Q. How long do implants last?
A. Dental implants usually last a lifetime. However, dental hygiene is still necessary to prevent gum disease just like natural teeth
Q. Do dental implants get cavities?
A. No. Dental implants are made out of medical grade titanium and therefore can not get cavities. However, dental hygiene is still necessary to prevent gum disease just like natural teeth.
Q. How long does the implant surgery last?
A. It depends on the number of implants; it usually takes about twenty to thirty minutes per single implant from start to finish.
Q. How long is the recovery period? Do I need to take time off from work?
A. The recovery period varies from patient to patient, but usually lasts 1-2 days. There is usually no need to miss time from work.
Q. Is dental implant surgery painful?
A. No. Local anesthesia is used as with a filling or root canal which numbs the entire area and nothing is felt.
Q. After the surgery, will I need a driver to take me home?
A. An escort is usually not needed unless in some circumstances where general anesthesia is used.
Q. What should I expect right after the implant surgery?
A. Very often a temporary crown can be attached to the implant right after the surgery. A permanent crown will be fabricated between 2-4 months later depending on the patient's healing time post-dental implant surgery.
Q. Is financing available?
A. Yes. On approved credit, 12 monthly payments no interest can be arranged. Please contact our office for more information.
